TRADITIONAL AND ENERGY-EFFICIENT RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX
GIARDINO DELLE ARTI. RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS AND EXPANSION OF EXHIBITION SALES
Location: Pieve di cento (Bologna) - Italy
Date of construction: 2012-2014
Info: The new Giardino delle Arti was born in Pieve di Cento (BO) within a larger extension project of the MAGI '900 Museum with the desire to create a space as a link between the new neoclassical style residential buildings and the recent expansion of exhibition sales. The new buildings create two blocks which, perpendicular to each other, surround and enclose the Garden Square on the east and south sides. The residential typology is that of in-line buildings and a row for single houses or small apartment blocks for a total of about 2600 square meters with on the ground floor spaces for museum use of 450 square meters. The architecture is the warm and traditional one of the small Emilian towns. A small paved square and an "island" pedestrian crossing of via Vallazione make the connection between the village and the new piazza della Rocca, thus completing a single large path and sequence of urban spaces that goes from the Magi'900 Museum Park to the Piazza main country. For the buildings, a traditional and neoclassical style was preferred with arches, arcades and tympanums that make the square “alive, dynamic and with a soul”. The buildings were then made even more welcoming using basically soft pastel colours. For the external envelope are used innovative clay block from Wienerberger.
