ENERGY AND ARCHITECTURAL RENOVATION OF THE CADORNA TOWER
RESIDENTIAL TOWER
Location: Paderno Dugnano (MI)
Date of construction: 2016-2020
Info: The project carried out in Paderno, a municipality of the metropolitan city of Milan, involved the energy and architectural renovation of the Cadorna Tower, built between 1960 and 1961. This building, with its reinforced concrete structure and hollow brick infill walls, had already undergone extraordinary maintenance work over the years, with a thermal insulation covering on the envelope that was no longer effective for the performance required by users. These needs led to an intervention in which the efficiency of the envelope improved thanks to the application of brick curtain wall. The tower, a 12-storey building above ground, has had its envelope upgraded through the insertion of a new 12 cm thick thermal coat in polyester hidden behind the 1.8 cm thick brick elements, made in different colours. The study of the layout of these elements creates a new, harmonious façade that combines the tower's rigid geometry with the city landscape, creating an efficient building with a modern allurement.
