ROOF OF THE RUINS OF ST. GERA CHURCH ON TRDINA MOUNTAIN

Location: Gorjanci Range, Slovenia

Date of construction: 2012

Info: The historical building was restored and modernised in a way that recalls a church and which at a subconscious level is immediately identifiable as such. The apparent dematerialisation of the roof is intended to enable visitors to experience the symbolic separation between heaven and earth.

Ceramic rooftiles have a very long technical lifetime (> 150 years). They are free from maintenance without a need to renovate over this long period. After end of life of the building the rooftiles can be demounted and used again as building material at a new building site.
