PROJECT 2226
Location: Lustenau, Vorarlberg, Austria
Date of construction: 02/2012 - 04/2013
Info:
What makes this building so special ?
It was shortlisted in 2015 for The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe Award
It is a low tech building. The overall goal of the new office building “2226” was to use as little technology as possible, the motto being: “atmosphere instead of machine“
The bricks serve as the optimal building material for this innovative project.
Bricks allow for a stable indoor climate, no convection and no vapor diffusion pressure due to “hot air“
Bricks are implemented as building material for comfort
Bricks work well in interaction with other materials
The design of the building is fully dedicated to climate solutions
What makes this building sustainable?
The office building “2226” requires less energy and provides comfort thanks to the unique architecture. The aim was not to replace nature with a technical environment, but to create meaningful relationships for the user. The house breathes by itself like a tree it reacts to what happens inside as well as outside. The construction is absolutely free of pollutants and non hazardous. The design has been tested for a long time and the storage mass has been confirmed by dynamic simulations.
